I really enjoy Christina's red beans on Mondays. They are delicious. The corn bread is very good too.

Christina's is a Downtown tradition. They have great breakfasts, homey lunch specials, and a big selection of salads. Tucked into a corner of Beauregard Town near the River Center, they are a convenient place to eat if you are in or around Downtown. Parking is a lot more convenient now that there is a off-street lot available next door. Go have a big omelet for Saturday brunch, or stop in on a weekday for a nice lunch special with two veggies on the side. One thing to consider though, is that unless one is ordering a lunch special that only needs to be plated, it will take time to fill your order. This is not fast food, so if you are in a hurry or generally impatient, it might not be the best choice for you.

My husband spent sometime walking about in downtown Baton Rouge by the river early this morning and could not find any place open for breakfast on a week morning. Even our hotel, whose coffee shop was supposed at 6:00 was not ready to serve by 7:00. We were delighted to find Christina's , an easy walk from our hotel. It's your classic breakfast/diner place. Very friendly and efficient waitress, simple but great food. My husband raved about how crisp the biscuits were under all that gravy. My grits were creamy and my bacon crisp, just like I like it. We will go back again tomorrow for sure.

I came here for breakfast before I left Baton Rouge for vacation because it was half way between my house and the airport. I'm so glad I did! I was not super hungry so I ordered a single pancake with syrup and butter, and my boyfriend had scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, and toast. We traded a few bites of each, and it made for the perfect breakfast. The pancake was seriously the best I've ever had-- and that's no easy thing to accomplish. It was not mealy or dense or overly sweet. The salted butter and warm syrup complemented it perfectly and it was just the right size for me. When I paid for the meal at the counter, I mentioned how delicious the pancake was to the cashier and she seemed genuinely pleased to hear it and said she would tell the chef immediately!. I'm looking forward to coming again and trying more breakfast items as well as the pie that was advertised on the specials board.

This place has wonderful service, a great local atmosphere, and pretty darn good food. Exactly what I was looking for coming from Los Angeles.

We looked all over BR for a local unique breakfast spot. This place was fantastic. We had great service , unique food that tasted great and a fun atmosphere. Really glad we stopped and it clearly deserves more stars. Get the shrimp and cream cheese omelet or the Christina omelet.

Come on yelpers. You won't hurt anyone's feelings for giving a proper rating, but you might hurt a fellow yelper by misleading us! I popped in here based on yelp reviews and was pretty disappointed. Cold gravy, hard biscuits, hockey puck sausage, mediocre service. I should have gone to Louie's.

OK... After the blackened catfish sensation salad I had today for lunch, this place deserves all the stars it can get. Absolutely sensational! And I fear that I will never be able to order anything different off the menu ever again. I'm going back tomorrow to eat another one.

I rarely complain about food, but I was sorely disappointed. Firstly, the prices here are far too expensive for plain food and small portions. My Western omelet was 9.29 and was flat and barely filled. The biscuits were dry and chalky. I'd gotten halfway through the omelet when I had to remind the waitress that I'd ordered orange juice. It wasn't until that point that I was told the "orange juice is bad today, and we're sending someone out for more." Christina was unwilling to discount the meal for me, and also was apparently too busy to come to speak with me personally. I will not patronize this place again.

Everything is great about this place except the FOOD. The grits were mush and covered with 1/2 cup of margarine. The hashbrowns were undercooked and oily. The pancakes were burned. Note to chef: hashbrowns should be crispy and pancakes should be soft- you got it backwards. It isn't cheap, and a big breakfast from McDonalds tastes better and contains nowhere near as much oil and margarine. The employees are great, but they are serving hot excrement on a plate!

Lovely hidden jem of the downtown food scene. Warm crawfish salad is a must! Friday get the Catfish Annie.

Order breakfast and it takes 1 solid hour to get us our order. Seriously? Wow. Be careful when coming here for breakfast.

OMG I have not had breakfast like this in years. A hidden gem. Ordered the Christina 2 egg omelet. Wow...egg with bell pepper, onion, and their homemade red meat sauce on top and smothered in mozzarella. When I'm back in town, I'll be back for another.

Three pieces of advice: Don't have loud political conversations, because the lobbyist and former House Speaker at the next table will hear you. Tell the server when to stop filling your coffee, because otherwise it'll never stop. And don't eat the Christina omelet. It's a mess and a waste of eggs.

I lived 2 blocks away for 6 months and only ate here once, because it was always closed whenever I wanted to go. The breakfast was good tradition stick to your bones souther breakfast. I'd really like to try it again, and will update this if I do.

Had breakfast here before leaving Baton Rouge after visiting friends and seeing an LSU game. Nothing major to review, it was just good down home cooking and friendly service. It wasn't packed when I went but I have heard it can get that way.

Consistently, pleasant place for both breakfast and lunch. The quality of food is excellent. It is not Frank's or Louie's but it is almost as good. The place is much better than the negative reviews. It is not in any way like Piccadilly. The food is flavourful. The portions are large enough. The service is excellent.

It's pretty hard to rate the food when you sit at a place for 40 minutes and never get your order. The place has a cool location but it's very cramped inside. The prices are also higher than similar restaurants in the area.

Christina's is a gem. In a gem of a neighborhood. Encompassed by historic Beauregard town, this breakfast and lunch joint has been feeding the locals with scratch made biscuits and soups for years. They have rotating daily specials (which you can see in their photos) Delicious home cooked food in a wonderful surrounding and great service! Must haves: Red beans on Monday, meatloaf and cabbage on Tuesday, old fashioned Roast Beef poboy on Wednesday, and Catfish Annie on Friday

Like another review summed up - Nothing Major to Report Here. Today was my first and likely last visit at Christina's. Overall, the food was seasoned well, but I don't think it was anything special and the portions are small; it's like Picadilly food for people who can't get to Picadilly. Moreover, I do not live in the downtown area and would not venture down one way streets to get here and then fight for parking - I drove into downtown today specifically to have a very late lunch at Christina's. On to our lunch: We had the "Catfish Sensation Salad" which unlike it's menu description of "blackened catfish, anchovies, and artichokes..." the salad had ONE ANCHOVY and ONE ARTICHOKE. They also threw in 1/4 of a tomato with cheese on a bed of mostly iceburg lettuce. The salad was good - -but Christina's skimped on the toppings and that is no bueno. As I stated above, the portions are small and at $9.99 I could eat in my LSU neighborhood and leave satisfied. We also had the grilled catfish and mustard greens and rice and brown gravy as sides - seasoned well, but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere is O.K. - great big white walls with red trim. Think of your typical diner but without the fun posters on the walls. But there is a random tropical fish statute sitting a window shelf....not sure what that was about but it is there for your viewing pleasure. Service is meh. They are not particularly cold but not particularly warm either. No sunbeams pouring from out of the sky in this joint. Bottom line, if I opened my office in downtown Baton Rouge - I would visit Christina's again if I could walk here - but for now, it's easier for me to get to Picadilly's.

Christina's is one of those greasy spoons where, other than the prices, it's unlikely that much has changed for several decades. Not surprisingly given its location on the edge of downtown, Christina's has a clientele that seems to consist largely of lawyers, state-government politicos, cops, and related hangers-on. I've been only at breakfast a couple of times, but with regulars fiing in and out to grab take-out orders and with running conversations between tables, it feels like the kind of place where a sitcom scene might break out at any moment. But it really never does. (Although this last time, a voluble, rangy older black guy wearing track pants and an LSU polo and looking like a "Basketball Coach" from Central Casting, amiably stopped by our table to talk politics for a moment or two, even though we were complete strangers to him.) For breakfast, Christina's does well enough. There really isn't anything fancy on the breakfast menu, just standard egg-and-meat combos, omelets, and pancake platters. Obviously, this is really basic food, and Christina's doesn't do anything to screw it up. Christina's has not jumped on the quality-coffee bandwagon; its brew tastes like Folger's or Maxwell House or some similar cuppamud. Service is pleasant and unobstrusive, and prices are about what you'd expect for this type of food. The chalkboard lunch menu looked a little more interesting than breakfast -- a decent amount of seafood and some Creole items -- and seems like it might be worth checking out.

Being a city girl, I wanted to try some local county food. Also since it was early in the morning I was naturally craving a good breakfast. After reading the other yelp reviews, I thought i would give it a try. I ordered the chicken fried steak, grits, biscuits, gravy and medium eggs. OmG. I've never tasted chicken fried steak, grits and biscuits like this in California before!!! Trust me! I've had my fair share. I don't think I can ever go back to California type chicken fried steak, grits and biscuits again. On a not so yummy note...the eggs didn't come out the way I like them to. The service was great! I would definitely come back if I'm ever in this area again.

I've been here before and it was fine. However, this time it was slow, and it's supposed to be a quick diner. We gave up our table for an elderly couple, sat at the bar, and waited 40 minutes. It wasn't busy. We got up and left. Horrible. I'm never going back again.

Took a chance based on the Yelp rating. We had chicken and sausage gumbo and Christina Omelet (Italian meat sauce and mozzarella). Service was awkward, gumbo was watery, contained no roux and tasted like it came out of a can. Meat sauce in an omelet could have worked but it too, tasted like it came out of a can. Observed an adjacent table eating salads with a bunch of iceberg lettuce.

Wonderful hometown feeling and very polite. We were in town for the USBC Open Championships and wanted a place close to the Baton Rouge River Center and this place provided a 5 minute walk to encourage our curiosity. It is a nicely situated quaint restaurant with a quiet easy going atmosphere. I thought that the pricing for breakfast was a little high for the portion provided. I would prefer to come back and try an item off of their lunch menu. The Shrimp Creole sounded delicious and looked the part. My husband had a chicken fried steak with eggs and hash browns and two slices of toast. There was part of an egg shell in his but he has the ability to put it to the side and enjoy the rest of the meal anyways. (Accidents happen.) I had the vegetable omlet (2 eggs) which listed mushrooms but I didn't see any, maybe they were out and this also came with two slices of toast. I also ordered a small orange juice and the glass was a little larger than my fist. Great service, we were in and out and thankful to have a meal so close to our destination.

This is a place for regulars! You can tell that many of the folks come here to grub day in and day out. Lots of hugs, Lots of 'how is so and so doing, tell them hello". This gave me promise. It took quite awhile for us to get service. It irritated me at first but as I looked around, I could see most folks kicking back with the morning paper or a book. Made me realize that this was a place to slow down. Ordered the Christina 2 egg omelet. Egg with bell pepper, onion, and their homemade red meat sauce on top and smothered in mozzarella. Sounded fab and tasted great! Had an order of biscuits! Wow! These are some big fluffy ones; so be prepared. There lunch items looked yummy as well. Looks like a revisit is in order.

Came here for breakfast while I was staying at the Belle of Baton Rogue because I wanted to go to a local place rather than the hotel restaurant. The service was friendly and the food was good. Typical greasy spoon type food, I had eggs, biscuits, and grits. Everything was yummy and the prices were fair.

This place is a local gem in downtown Baton Rouge. I came here for lunch and it was packed with friendly locals. I wasn't too hungry, so I ordered a small meal of french onion soup with an Italian salad on the side. My only mistake was not copying the locals. Everyone else ordered fried chicken, crawfish, or crab chowder. When my french onion soup arrived, the old man sitting a table over looked over and said, "you should've ordered the crab soup." Looking at him scarf his soup down made me so envious. Sure the french onion soup was fine like any other french onion soup, but suddenly I wanted a taste of homestyle Southern cooking. So I stole some fried chicken, fried ocre, and smashed potatoes from my friends. Boy was it delicious. If you go here, order big, and get what everyone else is getting and you won't regret it.

Me: Where can we get a good local meal? Sheraton front-desk lady: (without hesitation) Christina's! When you walk into a place that was instantly recommended by someone and it's totally packed for lunch, you raise the expectation bar a little bit. Unfortunately, Christina's didn't make me swoon. My fried catfish had a nice enough flavor. Of course, in true Southern fashion, it came with so-so french fries and buttery cornbread. The only "vegetables" on their vegetable list were covered in cheese or grease. Now, I'm not some kind of health nut - and I have definitely enjoyed my share of restaurants that only serve fried and greasy food - but Christina's didn't have that one dish that would make me be willing to endure the grease-coma again.
